Field TripThursday, January 20th will be our 5th grade field trip to Sarett Nature Center. We will be learning to Cross Country Ski (weather permitting). Students will need to dress in layers and plan to be outside most of the day. Long socks, hats, gloves, snow pants, etc. and a SACK LUNCH are all needed for this day. If we do not have enough snow to ski we will still go, but will have another activity planned. If you need to order a school bagged lunch please fill out and return the attached sheet by Monday 1/17. Parents are allowed to join us, but are asked to meet us at Sarett at 9:30 am and will need to pay a fee to participate. Our trip will be 9:30-2:00 and the bus will leave at 9:00 am. If you are a parent wanting to help chaperone, please make sure to email kgriffith@sjschools.org to ensure we have all the paperwork needed to allow you to chaperone.

NWEA- Our winter NWEA sessions will begin this Wednesday morning with Math.  Please encourage your child to do their best, but not stress too much about this test. I have seen them all grow so much since the beginning of this school year, and this is just one small way to gauge their growth. Please discuss test taking strategies and make sure they get a good night's sleep beforehand. We will test Math and Reading.

Winter Parent Teacher Conferences- Winter conferences will be held the week of January 24th. I will send a conference sheet home with your child this week in their Friday Folder. Some of the sheets will say that I am requesting a conference with you, others say that things are going well and no conference is needed at this time. If a conference was requested, please either confirm the date and time, or give me your preference! Our staff is only required to meet with families that we have academic, behavioral or social emotional concerns for the Winter conferences. However, if you would like to meet with me, I will make time for you! You may choose between virtual and in person conferences as we did in the fall.

Martin Luther King Jr Day- In Honor of MLK Day we will be watching Remember the Titans which is a movie about desegregation in the 1970's. This movie is rated PG, so we need a permission slip for your child to be able to view with us. Permission slips will come home this week. Students will be allowed to bring and enjoy a blanket/pillow, snack, and a clear drink during the movie.
