What an amazing first week we had! It was so nice to be able to connect with each of your kids during the past four days. Everyone did their very best to stay focused and on task even with the excitement of a new school year. I can tell this is going to be a fantastic year!
NWEA-
We will begin our first NWEA testing session Tuesday morning with Math and again Thursday morning for Reading. We will reassess students in the Winter and Spring to watch their growth throughout the year.
Back to School Night-
Back to School Night this year will be IN PERSON! We will meet in Room 206 at 5:00-5:45. The presentation will help to convey information about accessing our weekly blog, Google Classroom, Curriculum highlights and other important classroom expectations.
Friday Folders-
This year students will be bring home mail on Fridays in their Purple Friday Folder. Please look through their mail for graded work, tests, permission slips, and school information each week. After looking through please sign the purple packet on the line with the corresponding date. I will check these each Monday to see if you have seen their mail. Friday Folders did not come home this week, but keep an eye out for them next week!
Homework-
5th Graders are expected to read 30 minutes every night from a "Good Fit Book". Please note that no other homework will be given on a nightly basis, however, your child may have some work that needs to be completed from the school day. Occasionally, practice tests and review sheets may come home.
Snack-
We will have snack each school day. Due to allergies in our classroom please do not send in peanuts and other nuts. Birthday Treats are allowed, but will only be passed out to our class (27 students) and should be a prepackaged treat- not homemade. If you would like to help keep our snack stock full for students who may not bring snack, that would be much appreciated- regular Goldfish and pretzels are welcome. If you'd like to contribute in this way, please send in the snack with your student and I will keep them in my room for students who need snack.
