Movie Day- This Thursday, 5th Graders will be watching the movie National Treasure (PG) to wrap up the Social Studies topics recently covered in class including the colonies, causes for the Revolution, and Declaration of Independence. Keep an eye out for a Permission Slip that came home on Friday. If you have any questions or concerns about this movie please check out Common Sense Media to see parent reviews. Students may bring in a snack, clear beverage, and a pillow/blanket to enjoy during the movie, and wear their pajamas.

Warmer Weather is approaching!
Please make sure your child is continuing to bring a coat or jacket to school even with the warmer weather arriving. In Michigan our weather can change rapidly and students are expected to be prepared for recesses of all weather. Remember our school policy is that a coat is needed and no shorts allowed when it is under 60 degrees outside.

M-STEP Information- 5th graders take FOUR M-STEP tests (ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies) starting the week of April 18th-May 20th. We will take one assessment a week on each Wednesday. Please try to encourage good sleeping habits and have your child eat a good breakfast before each test. Please try to limit absences on these days because making up these test sessions is difficult. I will allow SUGAR-FREE GUM during these tests and will collect any gum donations ahead of time.

Lincoln 5th Grade M-STEP Schedule-

April 20- ELA 9:45 (2 hours)

April 27- Math 9:45 (1.5 hours)

May 4th- Science 9:45 (1.5 hours)

May 11th- Social Studies 9:45  (1 hour)

May 18th- Makeups 9:45

May 20th- Cut off day

March Is Reading Month:

We only have ONE week left until Spring Break! This time of year the beginning signs of "spring fever" start showing! We can start to get lackadaisical with everyday responsibilities. I encourage you to continue to give helpful reminders to your child towards their independent goals and responsibilities. One suggestion might be to have your child pack their backpack the night before making sure the checklist of school items listed above are packed. There are only 8-9 instructional weeks left when you include "testing season",  half-days and field trips, etc. before our 5th graders are 6th graders at Upton.  Let's finish strong! Thank you for your support!

Our classroom could use some donations of snacks and tissues again. These donations are used for students who forget to bring in a snack to school. Lately, we have gone through many of each (about a tub of goldfish a week). Snacks can include individually wrapped foods like goldfish, fruit snacks, pretzels, cheez-its, crackers, or granola bars. Thank you to all who have donated throughout the year!

As the weather starts to warm up, please be sure students are dressed appropriately. Clothing that exposes underwear or too much skin is prohibited. This includes midriff tops.

Remember to charge those devices each night!
